The Tour de France has provided some real interest over the last couple of days. The struggle up Tourmalet between Contador and Schleck was great to watch, but they crossed the line with the same time, so Schleck is still 8 seconds behind with only today’s timetrial to come. Contador was always likely to gain time on Schleck then, so Schleck really needed to put considerable distance between him either on Tourmalet, or as he looked like he was about to do when he lost his chain a couple of days before… Cavendish won his fourth stage of this year’s tour yesterday, and will be hoping to grab a fifth on the Champs Elysses on Sunday.
Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan took his eight hundredth test wicket on the final day of his final test against India. He’s the first person ever to reach that figure. He took eight wickets in the game, so it was a long-shot but a dream end to his career. Murali stands alongside Tendulkar, Lara, Warne, and Gilchrist as a true modern great.
