David Campbell asks a good question here: “in comparing a continent with countries, doesn’t it run the risk of perpetuating the homogenization of Africa’s 61 political territories into one entity?” One way this is seen is in the common undergraduate essay line about “countries like Africa”, but it’s much more widespread. I’ve so far just been to Kenya, Swaziland, South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia, but it looks like I will be there more often in the near future.
