I’ve just finished reading Alain Badiou’s new book, Five Lessons on Wagner.
I approached it expecting to learn more about Badiou than Wagner, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. A few clues aside, without his name on the cover I’d probably not have guessed it was by Badiou. The discussions of Adorno and Lacoue-Labarthe’s readings are interesting, but I was most taken by the discussion of different stagings of the operas.
Žižek wrote an afterword but although it had its moments it was very clearly by him and repetitive of other works. How long until he tires of the chocolate laxative, for instance? He also offers some thoughts here.
