Derek Gregory on Robert Kaplan, The Revenge of Geography

Both Jeremy Crampton and I have mentioned Robert Kaplan’s The Revenge of Geography, to be published this week. Drawing on Kaplan’s previous work, and providing some useful links to other discussions, Derek Gregory discusses it here.

Reading Robert Kaplan or geography, history (or anything else for that matter) is like talking to one of the characters in Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass. The take is so outrageous and faulty yet the structure of argument is so alluring a fool could believe it, unless if you know better. Coming out of the mouth of one of the most horrendous DC functionaries posing as informed scholars today. His writings on Pakistan and the Balkans (from what I gather) attest to this intellectual atrocity.

oops, “on geography or history”, not “or”. Sorry!
