back in Jerusalem

I’m back in Jerusalem, staying in the historic Jerusalem hotel in the east of the city, only a few minutes walk from Damascus gate. This is the first time I’ve been back since 2009. The reason I’m here is that I’m part of the Open Society Institute’s Academic Fellowship Programme, working with Al Quds Bard Honors College. I met one of the Returning Scholars, Nadim Khoury, when in Istanbul last month, and meet with him and two of his colleagues for dinner tonight in Beit Jala. I’ll be visiting the college and Al Quds University itself over the coming days, including sitting in on classes in urban studies and political theory; giving a lecture on territory and a workshop on publishing; and talking to a number of people about curriculum design, interdisciplinary work; and collaborative projects.
