My post on the idea of a potential ‘new Althusser’ collection for Theory, Culture & Society received quite a few hits, a few comments there, and some more by email, on twitter and facebook. I’ve made a note of all the suggestions made, for which I’m most grateful, and will think more on all of this. I was surprised at just how much Althusser I already had on my shelves (photo above) – most of which I got when I was writing the piece with Adam Holden on Althusser, Foucault and Machiavelli. There are a few key things missing, so expect to see these in ‘books received’ posts in the near future. As for the potential issue, my sense is more that this should contain pieces about Althusser and the ideas, rather than too much assessment of what has already been done on him, and certainly not retreading the arcane debates about his reception in the past. But I’ll do some more thinking and reading.
