I fly to Hong Kong in the morning, and then get the ferry direct to Macau. I’m very sorry to leave Canberra and the ANU. I’ve had a great time here, and Canberra has felt like home. The HRC was a great place to work, and I’ve done some useful groundwork on the overall plan for The Space of the World project, as well as drafting the chapter on ‘Fossils’.
I made some good friends here, loved the wildlife on campus and not far away – loads of birds, kangeroos close by, and then the Tidbinbilla nature reserve less than an hour away, where Susan and I went a few times and saw many more kangeroos, wallabies, a wombat, potoroos, a bandicoot, etc.. And I particularly enjoyed the cycling – some of the best I’ve ever had from my front door. I did quite a lot – just over 1,000 miles. I had other goals – the circuit of Lake Burley Griffin (17.4 mile loop starting from my flat) in under an hour; and to make it to the top of Red Hill, Mount Ainslie and the Black Mountain. Did them all (just). Might not be much for some people, but a big deal for me, especially on the old bike I had here.
Don’t know when I’ll be back, but I hope it is soon.
