Nakba – Manual of Return and Reading List

May 15th is the anniversary of the 1948 Nakba, ‘the catastrophe’, for Palestinians. The Funambulist site has linked to the fascinating ‘manual of return’, with English translations, that is distributed to those who make their way to the borders of Israel or Israeli-controlled territory to make their protest known. The original Arabic source is here.

Verso provides a reading list here.

Very good list, but where’s Ilan Pappe’s Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine? You’d think if they were going to assemble a Nakba reading list, they’d include a book with a good historical overview of the events in question.

I think the others are all Verso books – it is their list, after all. Pappe’s book wasn’t with Verso. It is definitely worth a read.

    Ah I see. Sorry

What did you think of Shlomo Sand’s book (on the list)? Of it’s thesis regarding the ancestry of the Jewish people?

Sorry, I forgot to ask if you had read it perchance. I clicked “post” too fast.
