Hong Kong

My visit to Hong Kong overlapped with the last days of the visit of a few people that had attended the Urban Utopianism workshop, which was good. Met some interesting new people and some came along to my talk on ‘Territory’ to the Geography department, which seemed to go well. The questions lasted longer than the paper (45 mins and 50 mins), which always seems to me a good sign. And more discussion over dinner and drinks.

I was also able to go along on one of the side trips organised by Wing Shing Tang for the workshop. This was to Tin Shui Wai new town in the New Territories, a city that has had so many social and economic issues that it is know as ‘the city of sorrow’. Lots and lots of high rise accommodation blocks and quite a trek from the centre.
