Today is the 100th anniversary of Michel Foucault’s birth. A lot of publications and events have been timed to coincide with this. Here are a few.

A collection of Foucault’s writings and interviews on Iran, supplemented by material from his archives Iran, quand la terre tremble: Reportage 1978-1979.
A new, and expensive, collection of his shorter writings, again using his archives – Dits et écrits. Une anthologie, introduction by Frédéric Gros, Chronology by Henri-Paul Fruchaud, notes and index by Dan di Razza Dilasser – Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, October 2026
Michel Foucault, La Croisade des enfants – ed. Arianna Sforzini with Henri-Paul Fruchaud, Flammarion, October 2026. This is a fascinating book of material Foucault drafted for a volume of the History of Sexuality, on the crusade against childhood masturbation. which he abandoned as the series changed direction. His draft material for a book on the early modern Church is due to be published next year.
The first volume of Deleuze’s lectures on Foucault, which were preparatory to his book on him – Gilles Deleuze, Sur Foucault I: Les formes du savoir, cours octobre-décembre 1985 – ed. David Lapoujade, Éditions de Minuit, November 2026
A reissue of the Cahier de L’Herne: Michel Foucault, ed. Frédéric Gros with Philippe Artières, Jean-François Bert and Judith Revel, Paris, L’Herne, October 2026, originally published in 2011
A special issue of Le Nouvel Obs – Michel Foucault Le visionnaire
I wrote “Working with the Michel Foucault archives – a brief guide to what is in Paris, Normandy, Berkeley and elsewhere” to orientate people interested in exploring more
Marcelo Hoffman and I wrote a piece for the Verso blog about Foucault’s 1971 visit to Montreal, where he gave three lectures on Nietzsche at McGill University and one on Sade at the Université de Montréal. He also met with Quebec separatists.
Some of the recent secondary work includes Didier Fassin, Ainsi pensait Michel Foucault: Enquête sur une philosophie pour notre temps – La Découverte, September 2026 – lectures on Foucault and David Puaud, Foucault avant Foucault: Archéologie d’une jeunesse – Denoël, September 2026 – an interesting study of the very early Foucault.
Daniele Lorenzini ed. The Foucauldian Mind – Routledge, July 2026 – a major reference work with essays on all aspects of Foucault’s work.
There are lots more Foucault related research resources on this site – bibliographies, audio and video files, some textual comparisons, some short translations, etc.
I’ve also written lots of short essays about Foucault (and lots of other things) over the past couple of years in the ‘Sunday Histories’ series.
And my four volume study of Foucault’s career is available from Polity.
Foucault continues to interest me, even as I work on other things and go in different directions. Most recently, Federico Testa have written a short piece about him, on which I hope to have more news soon.
